Having something to look forward to, from simply planning a walk with a friend - to perhaps setting up a well-deserved vacation, helps keep us in a positive frame of mind. If we go through our days aimlessly we can get stuck in a rut and find ourselves just living to get by. The ol' "carrot on a stick" or having goals - big and small - breaks all of that up.
